Please give us a short summary of your website?
DisplayMode.com is a social networking and online portfolio development community for fashion and modeling industry professionals like photographers, models, makeup artists, stylists, designers, etc.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
The need for more user friendly content-driven portfolio communities online.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
1997. My first business was an IT Infrastructure support firm.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
It was chosen as it relates to having your work on display, which is the objective of most fashion and modeling talent.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
Most of the competitors do not use a content-driven model and syndication technologies.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
To continually grow and evolve as a solid, well known, industry resource.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
Don't think it ever really will but its fun and we enjoy the work.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
Show me the money, and I'll show you the plan, its sitting right here in my safe.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
The whole objective is to sustain a constantly evolving community, so we're using a very scalable technology platform.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Nothing out of the ordinary within the scope of web portal administration.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Following Open Source technology evolution.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Fresh content and syndication
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
Things are going as expected, we knew it would be a challenge.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
Less that a year. Our project actually began as an experiment that has since taken on an personality of its own. We're not going anywhere...
