What inspired you to launch your own website?
I formed the LLC. Healthy Hair Beauty Supply out of the fustration of my hair not going past a certain length. Through research and trying several products I was able to find the hard to find and well sought after hair products that promote healthy hair. My goal is to educate women of color about their hair and how we all can develop and maintain healthy hair.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
I launched this website in November of 2008
How did you decide on a name for your website?
I wanted to sell products that promoted healthy hair so I thought that that would be a great name for the website.
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
I offer high in black hair care products that aren't found in stores and are made mostly by African American women who could not find the right type of hair products that they need
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
My eventual goal is to spread as much knowledge about hair growth and maintaining healthy hair as possible.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
I balance that by making sure that I spend as much time in the business than simply funding the business
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I would outsource more help so that I can spend even more time on the core functions of the business.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Yes. I run a well organized business that allows for easy implementation of changes to supply the demand.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
The only unexpected headaches that I would have to say I deal with is outsourcing my design of my website. I now want to take over the html and other technical aspects but now I have to go through a web developer. I am now looking into transfering my site to a hosting site that will give me more control.
What has been your biggest challenge?
The biggest challege is the certain amount of traffic I want to drive to my site.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
I found that www.myspace.com/healthyhairbeautysupply ,www.twitter.com/hhbs and other social networking sites to be very helpful in reaching my target audience.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
I never thought I would have to wear so many hats. I completely run every aspect of the business so I am constantly busy working on and in my business.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
I plan to keep up forever. I want to always be a great resource for my customers.
