Please give us a short summary of your website?
KuMushi is a Zambia fashion label founded in 2008. The fashion house caters to women who embrace an African flair. The first fashion line is called Tendaii. It displays a bold and daring twist towards African fashion.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
The website was created to encourage accessibility from people that are interested in KuMushi designs
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
This is the first website that I have launched. It is deifinitely a learning process.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
The name best describes what the brand represents. KuMushi is about fusing ones roots with current fashion.
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
The website is very easy to navigate and simple with a touch of class. The standard in our website is reflected in our products.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
KuMushi will be a label that will make Zambia a recognised fashion influence on the African continent. We want young women to embrace their culture and wear African clothes with pride.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
We are yet to determine that.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
KuMushi would develop the textile industry in Zambia. Unfortunatley, it is non existent. We need to revive locally made fabrics.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
We are definitely able to keep up with the demand. Our main goal is to provide excellent customer service.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
As a rule KuMushi staff research any new venture in as much depth as possible to lessen any surprises.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Building the website has been a big learning curve. The nuances of advertising the website is also a challenge.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
A facebook group and word of mouth
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
For those of you have never made a website do not be deterred. I had no experience but found a way to make one from scratch because of the many tools available in this technologically savy world.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
KuMushi has been up and running since May 2009.
